Starlooks Starbox Review - February 2014

I just decided last month to add another subscription box to the mix - Starlooks Starbox. Yeah, I needed more makeup, right? OK, maybe not, but it's a screaming deal at $15 a month plus tax.

I already have a few Starlooks products from swapping, and an eye pencil actually came in another beauty box recently. For a while, I was hesitant to subscribe to a brand-specific beauty box, but since my other faves don't really do makeup that much, and I saw someone raving about it on Facebook, I thought I would check it out.

My first box was the February 2014 box:

It contained a lipstick, cream eye shadow, a pigment, and a headband to hold back your hair when you are doing your makeup. If the packaging looks messy or dirty, it's because I swatched the items before I remembered to take a photo! Sorry about that!

The products I got and their retail value (total retail value approx. $42):
  • Cream eye shadow: Phaser (retail price not listed on the site, but most eyeshadows there are about $12-13).
  • Pigment: Wall Street, which is black with a lot of sparkle: $17 retail value
  • Lipstick in Drew, a "satin" neutral shade with a bit of mauve: $12 retail value.
  • I have no idea the retail value of the headband, maybe 50 cents? It wasn't cute, but it has been useful.

Swatches
Swatches are from left to right- Drew, Phaser and Wall Street. Look at the sparkle in Wall Street! I don't know how I am going to wear this since it doesn't fit my normal lifestyle to have a super black sparkly pigment, but I might have to make some plans to go out somewhere fun just to wear this. (Do other people do crazy stuff like that?)

So far I have tried out the lipstick and the eyeshadow, and liked them both. I can't say I am bowled over with excitement about these products, but I am very excited about the price of the box compared to the retail prices of the products. They also do birthday gifts, loyalty gifts and when you get a referral, you get an extra box of goodies, so it seems like a good way to get a lot of different colors and styles of makeup to try out. So I am going to hold on to this sub for a while and see how it plays out over the next few months.
