Fair Treasure Review February 2014

I've been reviewing Fair Treasure boxes over the past few months- they kindly gave me a three-month subscription to review. This is the last box in the three-month subscription.

This month, the box contained some shea butter from Africa, a Valentine's card featuring a donut, and an adjustable ring. I'm happy to report that the box did not smell like incense when I opened it.

The item I was least excited about was the ring. It's kind of cute in its own way, but you can find this type of stuff at any street market, and the ring part was adjustable and sort of cheap. I've received much nicer jewelry in my other Fair Treasure boxes. The Valentine's card was super cute.

The big news here was the African shea butter. This was unlike any shea butter I have tried before- it must be the pure butter or something. It's practically solid, not like a lotion or anything. It goes on like a balm and stays in your skin for hours. Hubby and I both did a foot treatment with it by putting it on our feet and wearing socks over them, and I really liked the outcome. It's not greasy but it does moisturize very well.

After testing out this three-month subscription, I was thinking about whether I would recommend this box to readers. I am used to getting subscription boxes where the value of the box is much higher than what you actually pay, and that's not the case with this box. Usually the value of the box is right around what you actually would pay for it. But maybe that's a comment on the nature of this stuff- maybe we should be paying more for items that we know are fair trade items. I definitely have been surprised in a good way by several of the items in the boxes I have received. Although the jewelry I received this month wasn't super exciting, I have enjoyed all the other jewelry and worn it all several times. And I do  like trying out things I would have never tried like the African shea butter in this month's box. So I think if that sounds good to you, it would be a good idea to try out Fair Treasure!
